Call For Suggestions

I’m curating a most excellent playlist for the summer and I’m looking for suggestions. Listen and subscribe to it in Spotifybelow and get inspired.

Kitchen Cabinet iPad Holder

Posted on 05|25|2012 @ 1:19 PM by LA.

The other day I was trying out this recipe and Geoff noted that it was too bad we couldn’t mount the iPad up somewhere in the kitchen so we could see the recipe more easily. We don’t have a ton of counter space (ok, like almost none). So we had to keep walking over to it to double check. Geoff slid the iPad into the handles on our cabinets but there was no way it would stay. I suggested we buy some of those sticky hooks and mount them upside down so we could just slide it through. And voila, the next day we had a place to mount the iPad in the kitchen.

Roadtrippin’

It took a few days, but I finally feel back to normal after our roadtrip adventure to New England. I don’t know what it is about being on the road for long stretches of time, but I totally lost track of the days.

We left two weeks ago from Silver Plume, and it took us 4 days to get to my hometown in New Hampshire. Driving through the country is fun, but it’s fucking exhausting. Most of the drive is so repetitive too, miles and miles of empty corn fields and cows and sky and nothing else.

When Geoff and I finally made it to Salem, we popped into my brother’s fiancee’s parents’ house to say hello, and then it was straight to one of my best friend’s baby showers/BBQ. It was so great to see two of my best friends in the world and reminisce about growing up together, catch up on the present, and celebrate the future.

Besides spending time with friends and family, the one place I was determined to go to (or see, really) the beach. And since this was Geoff’s first trip to New England, it made perfect sense to also go in search of a place that served fresh caught seafood for dinner.

We ended up taking RT 1 from Hampton Beach all the way to Kittery, ME, and stopped at the first local seafood joint we could find. We ended up at this quiet, quaint, and picturesque little restaurant called Captain and Patty’s. There was only one other party in the restaurant. A group of 6 folks in their mid-late 60’s gathered together to celebrate a birthday. We couldn’t help but over hear some of their conversations, and after they made us laugh a few times, we got their stamp of approval in the form of a slice of birthday cake. The food was also amazing, and I ate pretty much every last bit I could.

It wouldn’t have been a trip home with out a bit of a drinking session with my brother and his pals. Feeling a bit lazy, I coerced them all to come out to the bar across the street from the hotel we were staying at. But as always, we had a great time. I already can’t wait to do it again.

The drive back home to Colorado… ooh boy not as much fun as the drive to NH. We were both so tired and so ready to get home. I brought Reggie back with me, so we had him to consider too. Less nights away from the new home, the better, right? Wrong. So wrong. We took a chance and drove a little too far for him and he peed in his box and it got all over the seat. Oh god was it awful.

And now I leave you with this picture, that will likely haunt you later as you try to fall asleep. I don’t know why but the night always ends up with a game of “Who can look the creepiest in L.A.’s glasses?”

I think Geoff wins this round, and perhaps the game forever.

Six Months: From Boston To Boulder

Posted on 04|25|2012 @ 11:00 AM by LA.

Exactly 6 months ago today, my mom and I were on the road, leaving New England for a new life in Colorado. Actually at about this time we were probably about to get lunch at a Friendly’s in Connecticut. Filled with hopes, and aspirations, and inspirations, mom and I were excited about the trip and ready for change.

6 months ago, I was sad, tired, underpaid and overworked. I desperately needed to give my life a makeover, and desperately needed to get space away from some people (ok, ok ONE person). I came to Colorado thinking that I needed a fresh start, new scenery, new opportunities that I wasn’t getting in Boston.

Relocating is easily the best decision I made in 2011.

Since moving out here I feel like I am finally living the way I am supposed to be. Happy, content, relaxed. There are multiple contributing factors in feeling so positive.

One, I got a job shortly after moving out here, in my field. Best job in the world? No, and I still felt underpaid and overworked. But they gave me a chance to flex my muscles as a copy writer in a hardcore way, and the job reminded me that I am a great writer.

Two, I am surrounded by people I love. 9 cool younger cousins, an amazing Aunt and Uncles, up until a few weeks ago my mom, and now, even a fantastic boyfriend.

Three, I am now living out my dream of living in the middle of now where surrounded by trees, hugged by mountains, in a tiny (I mean, seriously, seriously tiny; there are only 206 people living in this town, 206! My high school graduating class was bigger than that), weird, little ghost town in the Rocky Mountains.

I can’t believe how lucky I am. I’ve been given a lot of opportunities here and I’m very grateful for that and to the people who’ve helped me out along the way.

Finally, I apologize for the lapse in posts. There have been too many things I’ve wanted to say but had to keep on the DL until recently. I’ll be updating more often from now on. Also: NEW ENGLAND FOLKS!! I’ll be in the area by the end of next week. I think EXACT length of time is still to be determined, but several days at least. Get in touch, alright? Alright.
